Louis Lewis |
|
|
My family has been trying to trace a family member for over twenty years, and I would really appreciate the help of anyone who can help, in any way.
His name is Louis Lewis, and he was born of Polish/Russian origin, during the years of 1890-1895.
He was of course, Jewish, and we believe he changed his name by deed poll from Louis Danischewsky to Louis Lewis, when he became naturalised in the UK.
We believe he lived in Kensington, London for some years, but then he disappeared, and may have moved to the US, (probably New York), where we assume he died.
PLEASE, PLEASE HELP IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING WHATSOEVER, TO HELP ME PIECE THE PUZZLE TOGETHER!! |

Louis Lewis == Louis Chudnovsky? |
|
|
Hi,
I have a Louis Chudnovsky in my family who changed his name to Louis Lewis. He immigrated between 1881 and 1891 and came from Kiev. It seems a big coincidence -- could we be talking about the same person? Do you know of any of his immediate family?
Cheers

Hi Ian,
I have no idea if we are talking about the same Louis Lewis, although it does seem a big coincidence!
We actually don't know that much about him for definate, which makes the search so much harder!
He could well have been born in between 1881 and 1891, but certainly wouldn't have been very old, (probably a child coming over here with parents). We thought he was born in 1893, but could be wrong about that date.
We know for certain that a Louis Lewis lived at 42 Ifield Road, Kensington, London, during the period of 1915-1920 circa.
This is the man we are looking for!
If there is any way you can find out whether your Louis Lewis lived there, that would be fantastic, as that is the only thing that we understand to be true.
My grandmother, (who is now 88, born in 1915), is his daughter, and she has wanted to find out about him for her entire life, as she did not see him any more after 1920, as him and her mother were not married.
Her mother's name was Dorothy Ferguson, and my grandmother's name is Peggy.
Apart from them, there are no family members that would be of any use in this situation, due to name-changing through marriage etc.
We are not Jewish, so there is also nothing to link us to him there!
Sorry to write such a long message, but if we are talking about the same person, I just want to make sure that you have as much info as possible.
Nice to talk to you,
Thanks for replying,
Please keep in touch to let me know if this is the same person or not,
Yours,
Samantha |
